About Me – Local Leadership That Delivers

My name is Melissa Wallace, and I am running for Arizona State Senate in Legislative District 23 to deliver strong, locally driven representation for Yuma, Gila Bend, and West Phoenix. My campaign is built on three guiding principles: Collaboration, Accountability, and Commitment to Community.

As a proud Yuma resident, I believe the people of LD23 deserve leadership rooted in our communities, not direction dictated from Phoenix or Tucson. My focus is clear: protect local decision making, defend our district’s priorities, and ensure the voices of families, farmers, small businesses, and educators are represented where it matters most.

With more than 40 years of public safety experience, I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry. I led complex operations, managed personnel, implemented policy, and upheld the standards that keep communities safe. My career required discipline, strategic thinking, and measurable results. I understand how laws are written, how they are enforced, and where they fall short. That perspective allows me to pursue policies that strengthen public safety while ensuring transparency and accountability.

Beyond law enforcement, I bring hands-on experience in child welfare and education. I have worked closely with the Department of Child Safety and understand the urgency of protecting vulnerable children while supporting responsible reform. As a substitute teacher and an elected member of the District One School Board, I see firsthand the challenges facing students, teachers, and parents. I know the pressures our schools face and the importance of policies that empower local districts rather than burden them with top down mandates.

My campaign is centered on practical solutions for water sustainability, agricultural stability, economic growth, border security, and education reform. I am committed to action, not rhetoric, and to delivering outcomes that strengthen Legislative District 23 for the long term.

My commitment is straightforward: protect the values of LD23, secure a strong local voice at the Capitol, and deliver results that directly benefit the communities I am honored to serve.

My Commitment to Service

Service has always been at the center of my life. I am a parent, grandparent, and foster parent, which gives me a personal understanding of the real issues families face every day. I am also married to a U.S. Army veteran who served 21 years and later spent 27 years with the Arizona Department of Corrections. Together, we have built our lives around service, discipline, and commitment to our community.

I am dedicated to ensuring that every voice in our community is heard. I believe leadership requires action, not just words. I am prepared to be present, engaged, and responsive to the needs of Legislative District 23.

My Vision AND Leadership Approach

I believe our community needs strong, experienced leadership that can navigate today’s fast-moving challenges. Too many people feel unheard or overlooked, and I am committed to changing that by being a visible and active representative.

My goal is to bring people together, encourage collaboration, and deliver meaningful results. I am ready to be on the ground, working directly with the community and advocating for solutions that make a real difference.

My Policy Priorities

My platform focuses on the issues that matter most to our community:

WATER & AGRICULTURE

I am committed to protecting our water resources and ensuring sustainable access for every community in LD23. Water is the lifeblood of our farms, families, and local economy, and I will work to implement policies that prioritize conservation, responsible management, and long-term planning. I also stand firmly with our local farmers and agricultural businesses, supporting initiatives that strengthen productivity, protect their livelihoods, and promote the economic health of our district. My goal is practical, action-driven solutions that safeguard both our land and the people who depend on it.

ECONOMY

Growing LD23’s economy means supporting local businesses and creating real opportunities for families and workers. Drawing on my experience in public service and community engagement, I will champion policies that encourage entrepreneurship, attract investment, and strengthen the local workforce, ensuring economic progress benefits everyone in our district.

LAW ENFORCEMENT, CORRECTIONS & IMMIGRATION

Public safety is my top priority. I draw on decades of experience in law enforcement and corrections to promote systems that are effective, accountable, and fair. On immigration, I support practical policies that secure our borders, protect our communities, and respect families. My approach is focused on real solutions that strengthen safety and stability across LD23.

education

Strong schools are the foundation of our community. From my work on the District One School Board and in classrooms as a substitute teacher, I understand the challenges students, teachers, and families face. I will advocate for practical policies that empower local districts, support educators, and ensure every child has the tools and resources to succeed.

Moving Forward Together

I am proud to be a Republican who believes in collaboration and community-driven solutions. My mission is to put real people and real concerns first, and to work toward a stronger, more unified Legislative District 23.

With your support, we can create meaningful change and build a better future for our community.
